THE MIRACLE (LEAGUE) GROWS June 1, 2005 - With its first weekend of ball games under its belt, the Miracle League of Pensacola board of directors has formally given the nod to move forward with follow-on phase construction at the Mitchell Homes Miracle League Park on Nine Mile Road in Pensacola. The $400,000 project will progress in three phases, with Phase I, the construction of Miracle Field 1, nearly complete. Phase II will be the construction of a snack bar and public restrooms with showers and a boundless playground, and Phase III will be the construction of a mirror image Miracle Field 2. Plans are to finish Phase I by June 30, 2005, Phase II by September 15, 2005, and Phase III by March 1, 2007. “We have already raised quite a lot of money and generated a good amount of in-kind contributions,” Larry Thompson, president and founder of the Miracle League of Pensacola said, “but we aren’t even half way there yet. In order to finish this miracle, we need to continue to press for the kind of support this project requires.” The league’s first weekend of play saw more than forty players with mental and physical disabilities excitedly take the field. Players reported not being able to sleep the night before; others showed their excitement on their faces and on the faces of their parents. “I’ve waited (for this) 21 years,” said Adam Langham, 20. Adam was born with cerebral palsy. Thompson said the league will continue to speak before lunch groups and actively solicit support from the community and he encouraged supporters to visit the league’s web site for details on how they can contribute at http://www.miracleleaguepensacola.org/contribute.html. # # # |
